"Hershell Vernon Bratcher, 71, of Rich Hill, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, died Tuesday at the home. He was born in Yosemite, Ky., and had moved to Rich Hill five years ago. Mr. Bratcher was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years here. He was a member of the Rich Hill Christian Church. Mr. Bratcher was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Gladstone, and the Masonic Lodge , Rich Hill.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mabel Bratcher of the home; five sons, Robert V. Bratcher of 5917 N. Park, Gladstone, Francis Batcher of Phoenix, Donald Bratcher of 10006 Benson, Overland Park, William Bratcher of 3607 Harmony, Kansas City, Kansas, and Fred Bratcher of 4816 Woodward, Overland Park; E. E. Bratcher, Raymond Bratcher and James Bratcher, all of Liberty, and Clyde Bratcher of Kansas City, North; five sisters, Mrs. Clarice Ross and Mrs. Ruby Robinson, both of Liberty, Mrs. Alma Bogart of Kearney in Clay County, Mrs. Judy Rogers of Jamesport, Mo., and Mrs. Eleanor Bennett of Kansas City, North; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church and at 3 p.m. Thursday at the graveside in White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone." The Kansas City Times, March 6, 1974
