American writer. She was the daughter of "Three Stooges" Moe Howard. She had written several book on the Stooges. She also had several supporting roles in movies during the "Golden Age of Hollywood", which ran between the 1910's and the 1960's. She was married to Norman Maurer who wrote, directed and produced many of the Stooges film for 39 years. The books that she wrote are "The Three Stooges Book of Scripts" 1984 and "Curly: An Illustrated Biography of the Superstooge" in 1985. She also co-authored 3 books "Moe Howard and the Three Stooges" 1977. Written by Moe Howard and compiled by Joan after Moe's death, "The Three Stooges Scrapbook" 1982, rev. 2000, 2012 and "The Three Stooges Book of Scripts, Volume II" with Norman Maurer 1987. They had 2 sons Michael Maurer and Jeffrey Scott (Maurer), are both animation writers.
