Helen Marie Edwards age 89, of Monroe, under the end of life care with hospice, peacefully passed away on Saturday September 25th, 2021. She was surrounded by love, in the home of her daughter, Sandy, of Ida, with whom she resided for 18 years.
Helen was born on September 1,1932, the eldest child of the late Andrew and Zoe (Colpaert) Willaert. On November 5th, 1949 she wed the love of her life, Bobby Eugene Edwards. Together, they raised five children, of whom she was very proud.
She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music, enjoying her little dogs Stevie and Coco, and in recent years, traveling to Florida during the winter months. Reading brought her much joy, especially her Our Daily Bread Scriptures and Christian novels, by her favorite author, Robin Lee Hatcher.
As a lifelong member, she was a catechism instructor in the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at St. Mary's Church in Monroe. She also served others in the Ladies Altar Society and by volunteering at Mercy Memorial hospital. She was a past officer on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club and had been employed at an early age at the IHM Motherhouse.
Helen is survived by her children Barb Lambrix of Ida,
Bob (Carol) Edwards of Jerome,
John (Karen) Edwards of Monroe and
Sandy (Jeff) Davis of Ida.
She is also survived by many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren and
her sisters Fran Ingels and Andrea Labo of Monroe.
Also dear friends, Jason and Lori Laughren of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Zoe Willaert, husband Bobby and
son David Edwards.
Also brothers John and Jim Willaert
and sister Bernice Windels.
Internment and a private family service was held at St. Joseph Cemetery. Helen's final wishes were that any memorial donations be made to the Prune Belly Syndrome Network at www.prunebelly.org , the rare syndrome of her granddaughter.
