About 109 individuals and 40 wagons were in the James Brown Compnay when it began its journey June 18, 1854 from the outfitting post at Westport, Missouri. Under the supervision of Captain James Brown the wagon train arrived in the Salt Lake Valley between September 27 and October 3, 1854.

Traveling with this company is the Carroll's family:
Charles Negus Carroll (Age 36),
Willard Carroll (Age 6),
George Carroll (Age 4), who died of cholera enroute.

Before leaving for their westward journey, the Carroll family met with heartaches. George's mother Lucy Elizabeth Mc Inelly (1829-1854) and siblings Frederick Carroll (1851-1854) and Emma Carroll (1853-1854) died in June at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
