Steve R. Smith - age 70 of Lawson, MO passed away Thursday evening, September 30th, 2021 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. Steve was born on April 10th, 1951 the son of Jack D. Smith and Sarah (Sally) J. Witherspoon in Kansas City, MO. He attended Franklin Elementary School, Liberty Junior and Senior High Schools, all in Liberty, MO.

Steve was united in marriage to Kathy L. Morgan on July 4th, 1977 in Clay County and they made their home in Liberty, then Kansas City before moving to Lathrop in 1987 and made their final move to Lawson in 2013.

He retired in 2009 from Hallmark Cards after 36 years. Steve was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Crooked River Ward in Kearney, MO.

Steve was a western movie buff, especially John Wayne movies. He loved watching the news and weather on every channel. He also loved baseball and was a devout Royals fan. He even still enjoyed attending an occasional high school football game. Steve will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Sally; mother-in-law, Jean Jung; infant sister, Sarah Ellen Smith; nephew, Benjamin Belden; great-niece, Leanne Marie Mohler and great-niece, Opal Breighanne Smith. Survivors include: wife, Kathy; children, Stephanie (Steven) Autry of Houston, TX, Glen (Melissa) Smith of Lawson, Tim Smith of Lawson and Stacey Smith of Lawson; sister, Sharon (Richard) Orton of Independence; brother, Ken (Karen) Smith of Kansas City; grandchildren: Lydea, Isaac, Adam, Katelyn, Andrew, Gunner, and Hudson; as well as, a number of extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, October 9th, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 202 W 19th Street in Kearney, MO 64060. The viewing starts at 11:30 and ends 10 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow the services at Barnesville Cemetery, SE Barnesville Rd north of Lawson, MO.
