James Leroy Markle, 60, a resident of the Portland community died Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, OR.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the St Philip Neri Catholic Church; 2408 SE 16th Ave in Portland.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Funeral Mass to be held at the Carvlin Parish Hall found on the parish grounds

Christian Burial will take place at 3:30 PM at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Roy, OR.


James was born on November 17, 1946 in Tucson, AZ. The only child born to Alvin and Verda (Janisch) Markle. He was raised in Tucson until the age of six when he moved with his family to the San Diego, CA. area where he received the rest of his education.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Ivey in the early 1971's in San Diego, CA. Following their marriage they made their home in San Diego until they moved to Holly, Michigan in 1973. Following their divorce in 1978, James moved to the Portland area. He met Ron Evers on Father's day weekend, June 20, 1982, Ron and James became close friends and has been longtime companions for the past 25 years.

James was a florist by trade. He was co-owner of the Holly Florist shop in Holly, Michigan. He had worked for several florists throughout the Portland Metro area, as of late, been employed with Beaverton Florist for since 1999.

Among his interest he enjoyed plants and gardening. He had a special place for his pets which included dogs, cats, birds and several aquariums of fish. He enjoyed reading, music and playing computer games.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his longtime companion; Ron Evers of the family home in Portland, OR, His former wife; Barbara Markle, a step-daughter; Erin Ivey, An aunt and her husband; Florence and Kenneth Ingalls of Portland, OR, their children; Marlys Brunton and Verdonna Bullard.

The family suggest contributions placed in James name to Providence St Vincent Medical Foundation; 9205 SW Barnes Rd, Portland, OR 97225, for the Passage Quilt program or to a charity of one's choice.
