On Thursday, September 23, 2021, John Hector MacDonald, loving father of eight children, passed away at the age of 87.

John was born October 12, 1933 in Billings, Montana to Wilson Hector MacDonald and Mary Noreen Farrell.

John graduated from St. Mary's High School in Peralto Park, Berkely, California in 1952.

During his senior year in high school, at a church sponsored youth activity, John met the future mother of his children, Laquita Joy Choate. They were married on January 23, 1954.

Shortly after graduating from high school, John joined the United States Air Force and served his country for more than 12 years, including an assignment in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

John retired from the Air Force in 1966 and the MacDonald's moved to Las Vegas where he went to work for Laquita's Mother's dry-cleaning plant, Dot's Cleaners. After leaving Dot's Cleaners, John went to work in the hospitality industry as a bartender, a vocation he followed for the majority of his working life. John worked at various locations all over Las Vegas including the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino where he was employed the morning of the fire on November 21, 1980.

John had a reputation for being gregarious, friendly to everyone, and was known for his repertoire of good jokes.

In addition to his eight children, the love of his life was the acre of property he purchased in 1976 in Englestead Estates on Cedar Mountain, Utah. That property became the site for countless camping trips and family get togethers over the succeeding 45 years.

The ashes of John's oldest daughter Marcie, who preceded him in death in 2015, were spread at his beloved property and John will be joining her there shortly.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Jerry, Joe and Mary Ellen, and his oldest daughter Marcie.

John is survived by his wife, Lerlene "Shasta" Roever; seven children, Kimberly (Bob), Scott (Jane), Chris (Kathi), Michael, Pat, Jill (Spencer) and Jerry (Denise); 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.
