276 individuals and 100 wagons were in the Aaron Johnson Company when it began its journey about June 8, 1850 from the outfitting post at Kanesville, (present day Council Bluffs), Iowa. Under the leadership of Captain Aaron Johnson, Sr., the church wagon train arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 12, 1850.

Twelve-year-old Thomas Sargent was traveling with
Abel Morgan Sargent (Age 51).

According to Family Search: "Family history shares that Thomas and his father Able Morgan Sargent both died the same day of cholera while on the plains."
