Philip "Phil" Otis Hawkins 94 of Bloomfield was called home to our Heavenly Father on Friday October 1, 2021 at his home in Bloomfield.
Phil was born on December 5, 1926 in Blanding, Utah. He married Veloy Helquist January 11, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later
sealed in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on May 11, 1962. He served in the Army in World War II in the Aleutian Islands.
Phil and Veloy lived in Blanding,Ut, Gunnison, Ut, Farmington, NM, and Bloomfield, NM. Phil worked in the Uranium Mines and also as an Auto Mechanic while training and racing horses. For a time, he ran Bloomfield Shamrock. Phil loved his family. He enjoyed four wheeling with them. He also enjoyed being Camp Host at Nizhoni Campground. He was the highlight of the Hawkins
Family Reunion, where he sat at the campfire playing his guitar and singing.
Phil is survived by his brother Stanley (Jan), his sister Loraine and his 10 children; Terry (Kathy), Sharon, Shauna (Ron Apple), Dennis (Nancy), Debra (Ron Barney) Gary (Bonnie), Jeff, John (Louise), Sue (Tom Hill), Phylis (Andy Sanchez).
35 Grandchildren, 95 Great-Grandchildren, and 36 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Veloy, parents Lawrence and Laura Hawkins, 4 brothers, 1 sister, 2 grandchildren, and a son-in-law.
Visitation will be 9-10 am Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Aztec. Funeral Services will begin at 10 am in the Chapel and Burial will follow at the East Hammond Cemetery, in Bloomfield.
He will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all the relatives, medical staff, and friends who were so kind and supportive during this time. Your kindness will always be remembered.
