Gene Cleveland Finley, 92 of Star City, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

He was born January 15, 1929 to the late Hiriam Cleveland and Lucy Edna Mason Finley.

Gene was a member of Griffith Springs Church of Christ and was a retired English Teacher and Counselor for Star City Schools.

Gene was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army.

He was an avid coin and hymnal collector, enjoyed poetry, loved gardening, and loved telling corny jokes. He loved playing the guitar and piano, and just loved music. He had written two hymnals that were published. And he wrote the book "Our Garden of Song", which tells the story of how hymnals came to be written.

Also preceding Mr. Finley in death was four brothers, Roy Finley, Alfred Finley, Dean Finley, and Gaines Finley, and one sister, Juanita Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Wilma Smart Finley of Star City; son, Don (Kay) Finley of Lavernia, TX; daughter, Dianne (Erwin) Halbrook of Star City; 4 grandchildren, Heath (Lauren) Halbrook, Heather (Bradley) Wright, Aubri (Jeremy) Geurin, and Emily (John) Burke; 6 great-grandchildren, Finley Geurin, Jackson Geurin, Heide Hackney, Winnie Halbrook, Levi wright, and June Wright; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside services are 3:00PM, Sunday, October 3, 2021 at New Owen Cemetery in Griffith Springs with Jeremy Geurin officiating.

Visitation is 1:00-2:30PM Sunday at Griffin Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers are Heath Halbrook, Jeremy Geurin, Vernon Wallace, Dennis McDonald, Darryl Owen, and Bradley Wright.
