Lewis Vinson "Vince" Burns, 71, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 9:16 A.M., Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at his residence.
Vince had been a police officer. He had worked at DeSoto, Cairo and Willisville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville. Vince was a United States Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam. He was a member of the Murphysboro American Legion and the Carbondale Moose Lodge.
He was born January 3, 1950 at Eldorado, IL, the son of James and Jessie (Barrett) Burns.
He married Debra Gass on June 11, 2002 at Paducah, KY and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Pinckneyville, five children - Lisa Garrett and husband Daniel of Sikeston, MO, Michelle Bourland and fiancé Scott Grubbs of Springhill, KY, Chad Burns and wife Dawn of Bardwell, KY, Sierra Burns of Carbondale, and Kelly Mayer and husband John of Pinckneyville, one brother - Robert Burns and wife Dale of Murphysboro, one sister - Connie Martin of Chatham, IL, ten grandchildren - Alissa Burns, William Miller, Tacey Burns, Christopher Miller, Kelsey Bohde, Erik Frayser, Emily Pritchard, William Mayer, Isaac Mayer, and Amy Mayer, and one great grandchild - Lakyn Pritchard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers - Gene Barrett and Roy Burns.
Per Vince's request, cremation rites were accorded.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Friends may make memorials to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
