488 individuals and 42 wagons were in the William Snow/Joseph Young Company when it began its journey on June 21, 1850 from the outfitting post at Kanesville (present day Council Bluffs), Iowa, but the size of the company more than tripled as it made its way across the plains. It was initially organized near the Missouri River. This church wagon trail arrived in the Salt Lake Valley October 1-4, 1850 under the leadership of captains William Snow and Joseph Young.
