Michael Melville Wood, III, of Washington, DC passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 16, 2021. He was 16 years old and just starting his junior year at Sidwell Friends School. He graduated from St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School in 2019. Born on February 8, 2005, Mikey was passionate about his family and friends. He was an accomplished surfer and skier who loved travel and a good adventure. Mikey enjoyed playing sports, spending time with his dogs, and especially listening to music.
Beloved son of Jennifer and Mike. Mikey was a loving brother to Hyland, Samuel, Win, and Jude. Mikey is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. John (Lynn) Bick; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Judy) Wood; aunts and uncles Kimberly Wood and Nicholas Hayman, Rachel Dinerman, Garrett Van de Grift, and John Darby Bick; and his adoring cousins, Sophie, Joslin, Lillian, and Bo.
Mikey could light up any room, was carefree and totally himself at all times. He will be remembered by all his family and many friends with love…and a smile.
Fully vaccinated relatives and friends may gather at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 4700 Whitehaven Pkwy NW, Washington, DC, for a funeral service on Saturday, September 25 at 11 a.m. Given limited seating and current pandemic protocol, this service will be for family and friends only. Sidwell Friends and St. Patrick School's faculty, staff, students, and other community members are invited to gather for the live-streamed service at on-campus locations to be announced by each school, or from the comfort of their home with the link to be provided here. Private Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, DC.
