US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1875 and the was prosecuting attorney of Jasper County, Illinos, 1876 to 1884. In 1889, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. A unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
