Mickey Taylor
1923 ~ 2007
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2007 after a short battle with cancer.
Mickey was born to Suzie Florence Wooldridge and Earnest Taylor in Casey County, KY on September 18, 1923. He spent his childhood in Danville, KY playing in the rolling hills and fields. He moved to Utah in 1941 to help with the building of the Geneva Steel complex. It was then that he met and fell in love with the woman who would share the rest of his life, Shirley Jean West. Mickey and Shirley were married on November 25, 1942.
Mickey joined the Navy shortly after his marriage and served in World War II, earning an honorable discharge at the wars end. He returned to Utah and took a position at Geneva Steel as a millwright. He worked at Geneva for 36 years until his retirement. The final years of his life were spent with Shirley enjoying retirement at his home in Utah and his winter home in Parker, AZ.
Mickey had a wonderful and infectious personality. Everyone was his friend. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved sports of all kinds and followed his favorite teams passionately. He loved being in the company of his family and friends. He was always quick with a hug and a good word. The memories he brought to those he loved will carry forward forever.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Pleasant Grove), his children Linda Millar (American Fork), Darlene (Nile) Bezzant (Pleasant Grove), Susan (Dick) Goetz (Pleasant Grove), Sheila Turner (Jacksonville, FL), Michael (Sandy) Taylor (Roy, UT), Denise Scovel, (California) and 20 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Lester (Butch) and Earnest, his sisters Doris and Evelyn, a son in law, Sam Millar, a grandchild and two great grandchildren. At the request of his family, there will be no funeral service. Friends and well-wishers are welcome to visit with Shirley at their home in Pleasant Grove on Monday, November 12, 2007. Funeral Directors - Warenski Funeral Home of American Fork, Utah.
I love you all dearly, now don't shed a tear. I'm spending my Christmas with Jesus this year.
We love you Grandpa, we miss you already.
