GEORGE SAPHIRE JR. Sept. 28, 1948-Dec. 31, 2013. George J. Saphire Jr., was born in Newark, N.J., and came to Las Vegas in 1962. He was a son, a brother, a father and a friend to many people. Most of all, he was an athlete. Not only did he love sports, he excelled in sports as an individual. Locally in Las Vegas, he earned many honors including his induction into the U.N.L.V. Hall of Fame. Nationally, he was an All-American. George would not hesitate to help a friend or a stranger. He will be missed by many, many people. George is survived by his sisters, Deborah West, Kathleen Rodriguez and Christine Saphire, Gina Angelo and brothers, Greg Saphire and Frank Miller. George's last wishes were to be cremated. He also asked that there be no service held in his honor. Private ceremony will be for his immediate family only. The family asks anyone wishing to donate do so to the Nathan Adelson Hospice.
