Elsie C. West was born in Detroit on April 13, 1931, the daughter of Joseph and Veronica Wolak. She was raised by her loving sister Anna Ulanowski (Joseph). Elsie married the love of her life Robert C. West, Jr. in Detroit on August 16, 1952 and together they raised six children.
Elsie was a person with a true moral compass. She had a love of nature, music and traveling. As a lifelong student of history, she enjoyed visiting museums and was well-read.
Elsie is survived by her dear children Julie DeGraffenreid (Stephen), Madelyn Howard (William), Robert West III, and Martin West (Melanie). Elsie is the loving grandmother of eleven. She is predeceased by her beloved Robert West, Jr., and her children Mary Gawlowski (James) and Matthew West (Jennifer).
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Elsies life beginning at 12 noon, ending at approximately 4 p.m., Saturday April 13, 2019 at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. also at A. H. Peters.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
