FAY L. GRAY

Fay L. Gray, 87, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Monday afternoon, March 6, 2006, at her home.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, together again with her husband, Charles.
FAY LORENE GRAY was born April 9, 1918 (although she always insisted her actual birthday was on the 8th), in Cemtry, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank Leroy Rager and Maud Ophelia (Brown) Rager, both deceased.
On August 15, 1954, Fay married Charles Hugh Gray, in Detroit, Michigan. They lived in several different states during their marriage and at one time homesteaded in the wilds of Alaska. Fay was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on April 2, 2004, just four months shy of their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
After World War II, Fay became one of the first women to be trained by IBM as a computer COBOL programmer, During her lifetime, she became the West Coast's first woman data processing manager for Levitz Furniture Company. She was a dynamic woman who was brilliant and ahead of her time.
Fay is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice B. and Larry K. Heckethorne of Hillsboro, Oregon; Carla E. and Eliot B. Gardepe of Boulder, Colorado; and Virginia Esmond of Tigard, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Ashley Heckethorne, Britany Heckethorne, Chelsea Heckethorne, Aileen Fontana, Eliot Gardepe, Leroy Esmond, Samuel Esmond, and Carla Freeman; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 427 SE 8th Avenue, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123, in her memory.
Forest Grove Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. 503-357-3126
