William George "Bill" Kernan was born October 28, 1933 in Portland, Oregon the son of Delmar Clair Kernan (1908-1979) and Maxine Elizabeth Davis (1912-1992). In 1950, William enlisted in the Oregon National Guard, serving stateside as a driver in the 162nd Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
On June 28, 1952, William married Margaret Ann Lapham (1936-2004), the daughter of Theodore Alexander Lapham (1910-1955) and Alice Lucretia Wellin (1916-1985), at St. Peter Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon. William and Margaret had five children between 1953 and 1957: Patrick, Vicki, Richard, William, and Terry.
In about 1961, William and his family moved to Huntington Beach, California. While in California, William was employed as a machinist, an industry he worked in throughout most of his working life. In the mid-1980s, William and Margaret moved to Tucson, Arizona.
William passed away on September 20, 2021 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. He was buried on at Evergreen Cemetery. William was proceeded in death by his wife Margaret, sons Patrick and Richard, daughter Vicki, parents Delmar and Maxine, and sister Del. He is survived by his sons William and Terry, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
