Gwendolyn Keen Stokes, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 26th 2021 at the age of 77 surrounded by her husband and daughters. She was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduating from Baton Rouge High School in 1961 she attended cosmetology school and opened her own salon as a hairdresser for 52 years. Her clients absolutely adored her. She loved spending her time in the kitchen cooking, whether it was her famous Crawfish Bisque at Christmas time for the entire family, or a "just because I love you" treat for her loving husband of 41 years whom she adored. She was your biggest LSU Tiger fan, despite her husband's love for Ole Miss. She was a longtime member of Zoar Baptist Church. She is survived by the love of her life, Melvin Stokes; daughters, Karyn Neal and husband Craig, Sharyn Allen and husband Tommy; stepdaughter, Sharon Reid and husband Kem; grandchildren, Brandi, Ryan, Brittni, Brooke, Treashur, Alix; numerous great-grandchildren; and her brother, Maurice "Scooter" Keen and wife Kay. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry L Keen III; mother, Geneva Arceneaux Shelton; stepfather, Buford Shelton, and brother, Harry L. Keen IV. Family and friends are invited to a visitation Wednesday, September 29th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm followed by a funeral service at Zoar Baptist Church on 11848 Hooper Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70818. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 29th at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Greater Baton Rouge Alzheimer's Association. Central Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
