Gladys Ilene Edwards, born March 27, 1927 in Massillon, OH, passed from this life on September 28, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents Blanch and Isaac Smith, by a sister Pauline, a nephew Vernon, and by her husband of 61 years Harry (Bud) Edwards.
She is survived by three children: Tamara Edwards Lipan (James) of Maryland, Debi Edwards Jacobi (Mark) of New Jersey, and Torri Edwards (Lisa) of Weirton. She leaves behind 5 granchildren: Jami Lipan Butz (Steve), Brad Lipan (Ashley) and Amanda Lipan of Maryland; Tara Jacobi Giunta (Greg) and Breanne Jacobi Marchioni (John) of New Jersey. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren: Ryleigh and Everett Butz of Maryland; Kayla, Rylee, and Reagan Petrocelli and Aubrey and Savannah Giunta of New Jersey.
Ilene graduated from Belmont High School in 1945. She attended The College of Commerce and Business School in Barnesville, OH. She worked at M&K Wholesale Foods as a secretary and stenographer until her marriage in 1947. She and Bud moved to the Follansbee/Wellsburg area shortly after. She worked as a salesperson at The Hub in Steubenville, as a cook at Rowing's Restaurant in Follansbee, as the manager of Brooke Bowling Lanes, as a manager of the food and concessions at Follansbee Municipal Park and as a CNA at Weirton Hospital. For 20 years she served as the coordinator of the REACH volunteer Food Program of Brooke County. In 2004 she received the Humanitarian Award from the Follansbee Chambers of Commerce.
The family will receive visitors at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles St. Wellsburg, WV on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. Service will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Scott Mapes officiating. Entombment will follow to Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV.
