Stephen James Adams, 70, of Grand Island, NY, passed away at home on Friday, September 24, 2021.

Stephen was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Betty (Terryberry) and James Adams. He grew up in Lewiston, NY and graduated from Lewiston-Porter Central Schools. He continued his education at Niagara University, earning both his Bachelor and Master Degrees.

Steve was honorably discharged from The United States Army, having served three years as an Air Traffic Controller in 1970's Korea. He went on to pursue a career with The New York State Department of Transportation where he retired after 30 years in the Real Estate Division.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Lisbeth (Leone) Adams and his loving son, Zachary Stephen Adams of Billings, Montana. He is also survived by a sister, Sharon (Robert) Lavelle of Springfield, VA and brother, Christopher (Mary) Adams of Indianapolis, IN as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Steve also leaves two special sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Lynette Leone and Lesley and Ira Lapidus.

Spending winters in Florida, making new friends and taking up golf became Liz and Steve's retirement dream. However, Steve never lost his passion for woodworking. He remodeled, built and fixed everything. He was curious enough to take it apart and skilled enough to put it back together. Zachary commented that "I've never seen a repairman in our house!" Steve was the "ultimate handyman," very analytical and detailed, always with the highest of standards. He was wearing a facemask and hazmat suit before it was cool! Steve was a connoisseur of crossword puzzles and never missed a Jeopardy program, even joking he was going to audition for Alex Trebek's emcee job.

Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Stephen's R.C. Church at 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island.
Burial and Military Honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Arrangements by M.J. Colucci and Son Funeral Home.
