George Randolph Edwards entered into eternal rest on the evening of September 24, 2021, after his seven-week battle with COVID-19 and pneumonia. He was fully vaccinated.

George was born on March 11, 1950, in Beaufort, South Carolina, to the late Mary Irene Shepard Edwards and Howard Randolph Edwards.

He grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and graduated from George Washington High School in 1968. George earned degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason University, and King College before working for over 30 years in the Social Security system for the state of Virginia and federal government.

George spent the last few years of his life enjoying retirement with his wife, Zamira, in Surfside Beach. He liked to travel, read, work in the yard, go on walks, and watch all Washington, D.C. pro sporting events. He was a member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Carolina Forest.

George is survived by his loving wife, Zamira Islami Edwards, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, his daughter, Mary Nadire-Ilira Edwards (29) of Summerville, South Carolina, his son, Mason Edwards (26), of Nashville, Tennessee, his younger sister, Brenda Sue Edwards of Heathsville, Virginia, and his niece, Rebecca Edwards of Richmond, Virginia.

A memorial service honoring George's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church located at 2240 Carolina Forest Blvd. Myrtle Beach, SC 29579. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery off of Highway 544 in Conway.

Goldfinch Funeral Home in Carolina Forest is assisting the family with arrangements.
