Evelyn "Evie" Lea Thompson Rogers, 71, passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2021, in the Hidden Valley nursing home in Oak Hill, W.Va., following a long illness.

Evie was born on Sept. 23, 1949, a daughter of Burless and Marjorie Thompson. Evie grew up in Ghent, W.Va., and was graduated from Shady Spring High School, Raleigh County, W.Va., class of 1968.

From her obituary:
She enjoyed working as a waitress throughout the late 1980s at the Pizza Plus in Beckley, W.Va. She was loved by many and always wore a beautiful smile and had a fun-loving personality that was magnetic.

"The family would like to thank all of the caring and loving staff at Hidden Valley nursing home for the enormous amount of love and compassion they showed Evie every day during her stay there. You were her family and words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards you all during her long illness."

She was preceded in death by her parents. Evie is survived by two daughters, Tammy Rogers Brown and her husband Robert Brown of Ghent, and Jennifer Rogers of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren and great grandchildren and other family members.

A private ceremony was by the family on Evie's childhood farm in Ghent. Instead of sending flowers, the family asked for donations to the Hospice of Southern West Virginia in Evelyn's name.

-"and the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." 1 Peter 5: 10

Private online condolences, floral tributes, and other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family via a guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net.

Arrangements were by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, 729 Flat Top Road, Shady Spring, W.Va.
