Scott E. Long passed away in Lexington, SC on September 24, 2021 at the age of 65.

Scott battled Alzheimer's for several years but remained a dedicated, happy and fun-loving father and grandfather enjoying time with family in his home until his last weeks here on earth.

Scott's love of sports, basketball specifically, and this great country was second only to his love for his family. His faith in God was strong until the very end.

Scott received his bachelor's degree in Education from Louisiana Tech University in 1981. He spent more than 20 years coaching basketball and teaching American History. Voted Coach of the Year by the SC Basketball Association in 2001, he took numerous teams to championship victories throughout his career. He also cherished watching his own children excel in sports, sometimes coaching them in an official capacity, but always in an unofficial position from the stands.

Scott is survived by his wife, Lori Long; his children, Casey Long (Emily), Austin Long, Michaela Long and Joseph Long; Granddaughter, Louise Anne Long; sister, Jo Kathryn Long Quinn (Eric); brother, Stuart Long (Grace); and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Emmett Lucian Long, and his mother, Bettye Elaine Roan Long.

A Rosary will be said for the repose of his soul at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., followed by the family receiving friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Scott at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2021, followed by internment at the St. Joseph Prayer Garden and Columbarium immediately following mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Joseph Catholic Church https://www.stjosephcolumbia.org/electronic-giving or Birthright of Columbia at https://birthrightofcolumbia.org/
