Anthony L. Blackwell SMSgt USAF (Ret)

Anthony was born in Detroit, Michigan to his parents Robert Lee Blackwell and Juanita Formerly Blackwell.

Anthony served 24.5 years in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring in 1999. He then went on that same year to work for more than 22 years with the Union Pacific Railroad here in Omaha. He enjoyed his service time in the Air Force and at Union Pacific where he met lots of people who he enjoyed seeing every day. He enjoyed serving them and took pride in providing the best customer care. He delighted in teaching people how to do different things. He had several jobs in the military, but the one he enjoyed the most was being a flight simulator instructor in which he showed pilots how to operate and fly aircraft. He was also a low-key electrician. He was our go-to person for electrical issues and fixes on projects at home and for others. During his time at Union Pacific, he worked in IT and liked the job because he was able to meet new people, converse and help them with issues they were having at work. He couldn't go anywhere without seeing someone he knew or striking up a conversation with a stranger and having a good time talking.

Anthony graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and his great study habits continued into his bible study time. He'd study for hours on a bible subject.

Anthony took pleasure in serving others. When he and his family relocated to Bellevue, Nebraska with the Air Force in June 1996, it was important to find a good church home for his family. Shortly after arriving, he was invited to attend Bible Truth Ministries and the rest is history. He and Renee have been members since 1996. Anthony became a part of the leadership team at BTM in 1998 as a Deacon and then an Elder until his death. He was lovingly called Elder Blackwell and some called him "Eldo" for short. He loved being a servant at Bible Truth Ministries, helping in any capacity he could, except for getting on the roof. He didn't care for heights, so he opted to "supervise" from the ground.

Anthony ("Tony" to his siblings) loved his family. He loved being a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He liked to barbeque and sit outside on the porch during thunderstorms and tornado warnings. Additionally, he enjoyed sneaking off to the movie theater to watch the newest Marvel or D.C. Comic movie, with Iron Man being his favorite. He watched Iron Man about 20 times and knew all the dialogue. His smile was infectious and the sound of his laugh was hilarious. He had a loud high pitch laugh that you wouldn't expect but everyone knew it was from the heart. During family get togethers everyone would share memories of their childhood and he'd laugh and laugh about some of the things they did.

The list of the things he enjoyed and his accomplishments could go on and on, but the main accomplishment was his love for Jesus. He always shared his love for the Lord in many ways, whether it was a smile, a kind word, physically helping someone or just a listening ear. He will definitely be missed by all who loved him and those whose life he sowed into.
