Obituary:

Kimberly Cecelia Lawrence (Williams) was born December 27, 1967, in Washington DC to the late Bernard Williams and the late Maxine Oliver. She was raised in Northeast Washington DC by her paternal grandfather, the late Murphy Williams.

Growing up, Kim loved to dance and always had the latest music playing in her room. Kim was a hard worker who at times worked two jobs simultaneously. She is survived by her husband, Michael Lawrence, her two children, Robin Williams and Michael Williams, granddaughter, Melia Williams, and her siblings, Bernita Page (Tyrone) LaJuanda Brewer (Darryl), and Tamika Richardson, James Myers (Anita), and Bernard Williams Jr., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends. She departed this life surrounded by family on September 24, 2021.

As a native Washingtonian, Kim attended DC Public Schools. She graduated summa cum laude from George Washington University with a bachelor's degree of professional studies in police and security studies. She was appointed to the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington DC on April 9, 1990, and rose to the rank of lieutenant before her retirement on February 16, 2019. She served through a variety of assignments, including the Fourth District, Sexual Assault Unit, Homicide, Special Victims Unit, Second District, Forensic Science Services Division, Third District Detectives Unit, Fifth District administrative office, and Patrol Services South. She finished her career as the manager in charge of the Second District Detectives Unit.

Kim had a distinguished career, receiving a multitude of awards and accolades. She was known as a skilled investigator, and she mentored an entire generation of detectives. Kim was also known for her infectious smile and good nature and was regarded by all as a caring supervisor and an exemplary leader. She continued her service post retirement as a forensic intelligence analyst with the Department of Forensic Science.

Kim was also very active in her church. She loved listening to the choir and hearing the Word. Most importantly, Kim loved people. She was a dedicated mother to her children, a devoted wife to her husband, and a great friend to many. She loved helping people become their best selves and always encouraged those in her life to strive for greater things. She was so proud of her children and their accomplishments. Kim will be missed deeply by all who knew her.

Kim's service will be held on October 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First Alliance Church 14500 New Hampshire Ave Silver Spring Maryland.
