He was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. He served on several committees for the church and was available to help in any events that the church had and was a member of the "Moriah's" choir. He was a farmer for many years and then he left to begin a career as a roofer, a truck driver for Carolina Grain and Feed for a number of years until it closed and began work with the Department of Transportation until he retired. Served also as a volunteer fireman and Chief for the Saddletree Fire Department. His favorite thing each year was to plant a garden for the family and neighbors and visit the beach and mountains. He was a dad and grandpa that loved God and his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Florence Lowery, his loving mother and father, Jasper and Sarah Margaret Lowery; two brothers; James Albert and Herman Lee Lowery. He also recently lost his riding buddy and best friend Mr. Belton (Buddy) Locklear.
He leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters Sylvia (Sally) Maynor (Leon), Margaret L. Honeycutt of Lumberton, NC; three sons; Jackie Lowery (Brenda) of Hamlet, NC, Robert Owen Lowery (Leylakiona) of Pensacola, Florida, Chuckie Lowery (Carol) of Rockingham, NC; He also leaves to cherish his memories eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grands, one great-great grand, which he loved dearly. Special family, friends and neighbors: Michael Clark, Rev. Jackson & Sheila Locklear, Rev. Horace Oxendine, Carolyn Hunt, Thomas Supply, Glenn Hammonds, Delton Locklear, Bobby Lowery, and Adult Men's class of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
