Charlotte Elizabeth Sawtelle Field was born on March 24, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas and died peacefully on September 20, 2021. Her 96 years were filled with faith and family, including three children, 12 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was one of the "Greatest Generation", surviving and thriving through both the Great Depression and World War II.

Born fifth of six children to Charles Oliver Sawtelle and Evelyn Morris Sawtelle, she grew up in a large, loving family. Attending Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, she fell in love with her future husband, George Addison Field, Jr., marrying in 1946, spending seventy wonderful years together until his death in 2016. After graduating from high school in 1942, she attended Trinity University in San Antonio while her future husband attended Texas A & M University. After George served as a Naval Officer in the Pacific Theater in World War II, Charlotte and George were married and then lived in Austin, San Antonio, Uvalde and moved to the Dallas area in 1956.

Composed by one of Charlotte's grandchildren, the following description of Grandma speaks to all of her family and is one all the rest of us can second:

Yesterday, my sweet Grandma passed from this fallen world into glory. She was 96 years young. My precious Grandma was sunshine in this cloudy world. She was a friend to anyone she just met. She was a wrinkled old hand tucked gently into mine as we caught up on life. She was up for trying anything even if it involved strapping skis on her feet at 80 years old. She was a kind and encouraging word every time you saw her. She had a contagious laugh that brought smiles to even the grumpiest soul. She was the first one to help me understand unconditional love. She was more a mom to me than a Grandma. My cheerleader, my ringleader, my confidant, my example. Because of her love, I know God must love me incredibly because he gave me her.

Grandma enjoy your eternal swing dance. Sing your sweet hymns loudly. Enjoy the presence of our Beloved Savior and I look forward to holding your hand and catching up when I get there. Until then, I will carry your mantle. I will strike up conversations with strangers, I will strive to find the joy in each moment. I will laugh more, forgive frequently and love fiercely. Go with God sweet Grandma and know that you were so dearly loved.

She is survived by her children, George A Field, III (Chip), William Thomas Field (Tom) and Susan Elizabeth Jackson (Susie) as well as many loving family members and friends, including Ann Cavender and Fern Sigafoos who provided wonderful care and companionship after George's death.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Evelyn Sawtelle and her five siblings, Dan Sawtelle, Robert Sawtelle, William Sawtelle, Alice Sawtelle Dalley and Charles Sawtelle.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 North Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Restland Memorial Park, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, for a committal service.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
