Life Reflections

Wayne Eric Montgomery exchanged his earthly house for his heavenly home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at his home in Spartanburg, SC. Born May 29, 1958 in Sumter, SC, he was a son of the late Clarence Montgomery Sr. and Ruth Lee Seymour Montgomery.

Wayne attended Sumter County public schools. He was a wrestler and advent football player for Sumter High School graduating in 1977. He worked for many years at Carolina Furniture Company in Sumter. His later years, he provided assistance as a desk clerk for Archibald Rutledge Apartment Complex in Spartanburg where he resided.

The road of life is a journey of struggles, hardships, perseverance, joy, and happiness. Wayne had a past of struggles but ultimately he triumphed. He accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and was a member and trustee of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Through it all, Wayne was very protective of his family and those he loved. He had a huge heart and was generous to all who knew him. He was the life of the party and his jokes and storytelling brought joy to all blessed to hear them. He was well loved and will truly be missed, but his memory will live on forever.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Johnny Griffin, Charles, and Rowland Seymour; two sisters: Lee Ann Seymour and Ann Lou Montgomery.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: his son, John Eric Montgomery; former wife Gwendolyn Montgomery; sisters: Virginia (David) McGill, Gwendolyn (Allen) Spann, Valarie Montgomery of Sumter, SC and Betty Ann (Larry) Franklin of West Palm Beach, FL; brothers: Clarence Montgomery Jr., Harry (Linda) Montgomery, and Victor Montgomery of Sumter, SC; a special uncle: Eddie (Juanita) Clark Jr. of Sumter, SC; sisters in law: Rovena, Rosa Lee, and Bessie Seymour of Sumter, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
