Harold William Hayes, age 85, died on Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home in Coeburn, VA

Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Ann Parrish Hayes of Coeburn; four daughters, April Stidhams and husband Jeff of Tampa Bay, Florida, Angela Hall of Coeburn, Andrea Lawson of Coeburn, Michelle Campbell of Buhl, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Laura Pescatore and husband Joe, Julie Storie and husband Brian, Joshua Jaquess and wife Savannah, Heather Lawson, Jarrett Lawson, Derrick Hayes, Dustin Hayes, Darren Hayes; seven great-grandchildren, Johnayers Pescatore, Christina Jaquess, Eli Jaquess, Braxton Meade, Emily Hayes, Breanna "Bree" Hayes, and Berkley Hayes; several nieces and nephews.

Harold is preceded in death by his father, Claude Andrew Hayes; mother, Pauline Helen Buchanan Hayes; sister, Norma Jean Meade; a granddaughter, Christina Dora Jaquess.

Harold was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the coal mines for 35 years. He was an avid fisherman, loved to read, and collected coins. He was an accomplished Horseshoe player and held the winning Horseshoe title in many competitions while in the Marines as well as at family gatherings. He enjoyed telling stories of his service in the Korean War and his time in the Marines. His ginseng garden was a special place for him, as he enjoyed taking care of and growing his ginseng plants. He was a good cook with everyone enjoying his homemade "River Taters" at family gatherings. Harold will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel in Coeburn prior to the funeral service.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with nephew Steven Greear, cousin Tommy Counts, granddaughter Laura Pescatore, and granddaughter Julie Storie leading the service.

The procession to the cemetery will depart from Estes Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 12:30 PM. An entombment service will follow at the Temple Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Castlewood, VA.
