Mary died September 27, 2021 at her home in Jasper, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Newton County, Texas and a longtime Kirbyville and Houston resident, Mary has lived in Jasper for the past 47 years. She graduated from Kirbyville High School in 1945. She loved flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, reading, Blues music – especially B.B. King and Elvis – and more importantly, spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by daughters, Susan Schmidt and husband Rick of Georgetown, Texas and Kathy Holmes of LaPryor, Texas; grandchildren, Laura Cole, Jennifer Schmidt and Anna Kathryn Holmes; two great grandchildren, Rebecca Cole and Julie Reynolds and great-great grandson, Zackery Hebert.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nannie Griggs; husband of 69 years, Gene W. Hicks; daughter, Darla Jean Hicks; great grandchild, Christina Cole; two brothers, Wade Griggs and Roy Griggs and sister, Ruby Carr.
