Joyce Lee (Dennis, Allen, Marien, Childers) Brooks, 87, of Manistee, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Maple Ridge Manor in Manistee.

Born June 29, 1934, to parents Clair and Elaine (Proper) Dennis, Joyce spent her early years attending school, pranking her brothers, Jack and Jerry, participating in community theatre, and dreaming of a life on the stage. Singing, dancing, and entertaining were her passions as a young girl, and that continued throughout her life. As an adult, she drove a school bus for Davison Schools and worked at a chiropractic office before enjoying a long and dynamic retirement. She frequently performed as her signature character, "Susie," entertaining and often affectionately embarrassing her loved ones on their special events, making those moments even more memorable. Joyce had a strong faith in God and Jesus Christ and spent a lot of time worshipping and volunteering in church. Joyce loved to quilt and sew, play games with family and friends, and sing and play music. She had many stories to share of her life and of the silly and funny things that would happen to her. Joyce loved to make people laugh. She made friends easily and always enjoyed the companionship of loved ones. Joyce had a larger than life personality and a warm, comforting presence. She was witty, creative, thoughtful, and resilient.

Of all her joys, the greatest was her family. Joyce was so very proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all who endearingly called her "Crazy Grandma." Joyce is survived by three children; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter; and many extended family members and friends whom she so dearly cherished.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers, Jack Dennis and Jerry Dennis and son-in-law Rick Harris.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held from 1-4 PM, Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the Big Bear Sportsman's Club in Kaleva.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to organizations that support her passions, such as churches, community theatres, or hospice care associations.

The Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva, is in charge of arrangements.
