John F. McGuire, of Dunnellon, Florida, previously from Johnstown, New York, entered into eternal rest on December 23, 2020 at the age of 89.

Born on September 4, 1931 in Corinth, New York, he was the son of William and Florence (Farrell) McGuire.

At an early age John moved to Johnstown, where he attended school and excelled in many sports including baseball, basketball, and football.

John was a member and a lay reader of St. Patrick's Church, the Knights of Columbus and a 1949 graduate of Johnstown High School.

On November 30, 1950, he married the love of his life, Marylin J. Porter, and remained devoted to her until her passing on March 18, 2019.

Together, they raised four sons, John Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Michael (Catherine) of Guilderland, NY, Kevin (Ginger) of Dunnellon, Florida, and Timothy (Eileen) of Brunswick, NY.

John is predeceased by his son John Jr.

John was employed at Lee Dye Inc. from 1952 until 1980.

In 1980 John and Marylin moved to North Carolina where John was employed at Guilford Mills until he retired in 1995.

Upon retirement, John and Marylin moved to Dunnellon, Florida.

John was a lifelong sports enthusiast and proudly coached his sons in Little League baseball and CYO basketball for 15 years. John loved bonding with his family and friends over a shared love of sports and cherished the memories created for the entirety of his life. In his later years, John became an avid golfer. He was a member of several golf leagues, some of which he managed, and did his best to hit the links as often as possible.

John, a grandfather of nine, great-grandfather of nine, and uncle to several beloved nieces and nephews, loved spending time with his family and friends, often traveling long distances with Marylin to visit the people he held dear.

He was extremely spirited, outgoing, and always a true gentleman. Known for his inventive moves on the dance floor and his ability to light up a room, John had a natural and incomparable ability to add joy to every situation. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
