Linda Peters, 80 of rural Devils Lake died on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Linda Lee Suzanne (Kjelden) Peters was born November 23rd 1940 to Ervin and Vida (Avens) Kjelden in Rugby, ND. Their's was a large and loving family where values such as respect, kindness, and hard work were practiced always. Linda followed these values for her entire life.

She grew up in the Devils Lake area, first attending a country one-room schoolhouse and later graduating from Central High School in 1958. While in high school, Linda worked as a car-hop at "The Barrel". After work she pedalled 10 miles one-way to the family farm. She attended secretarial school, after high school, in Grand Forks where she also worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Linda married Leonard Peters on November 28th, 1959. They moved to several different states while getting established in the early years, but returned to North Dakota in 1962. By then two children had arrived; Pamela in 1960, and Deborah in 1962. Linda became a full-time wife and mother, a role that she truly enjoyed. Linda welcomed a baby boy, Jarret, in January of 1974. At the end of the 1960's and during the 1970's they were still moving around for jobs, until 1975 when they purchased a grocery store in Tolna, ND. Unfortunately, the grocery store burnt down after several years. They then contracted with the US Postal Service to haul mail from Minot to Grand Forks. The job was not only physical, but the North Dakota winters were also something to contend with. Linda did it all with grace and determination.

Linda had many interests. She belonged to several garden and homemaker clubs over the years. She was always involved in her church and was more than willing to serve for events, bake goodies or sew doll clothes. She enjoyed doing crosswords and sudokos, but she was a whiz at jigsaw puzzles! Linda also sewed many family baby blankets as well as made hanging kitchen towels for everyone at Christmas!

Linda was always most concerned with taking care of her family. She will be missed for her smiling face, her can-do attitude and especially for her extreme kindness. She touched so many people in her life time and we are all proud to have known her.

Linda's loving family include her children Pam (Bill) Walters, Mountain Home, AR, Deb (Jason) Nelson, Bismarck ND, Jarret (Rebecca) Peters, Devils Lake; grandchildren Aimee Walters, Sarah (Richard) Dickens, Heather (Kevin) Jones, Samantha Crabbe, Alex Crabbe, Hope Nelson, Faith Nelson, Meggan (Tanner) Tuchscherer, Kaitlyn Kuhn, Nicholas Essen, Cassidy Sanderson; great grandchildren Jace, Tate, Sophia, Bella, Jocelyn, Penelope, Breklynn, Brinly; sisters and brothers Patty (John) Anderson, Gary (Eunice) Kjelden, Bruce (Diane) Kjelden, Coralie (Jim) Nelson, Sandra Stiley, Al (Deb) Kjelden, Bonnie (Larry) Klein, Gib (Paulie) Kjelden and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Leonard Peters; brother, Douglas Kjelden; grandson, Billy Walters; and niece, Jessica Kjelden.

Visitation at Gilbertson Funeral Home on September 29, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Devils Lake on September 30 at 10:00 AM with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
