He graduated from South Hills High School, in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Pittsburgh in 1951, and proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Upon completion of basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Tom received advanced training in the Army Signal Corps at Fort Gordan, Georgia, and then served 18 months in Korea. Upon completion of his military service, Tom worked for the Bell Telephone Company for 40 years.
Tom spent most of his life in the Brookline neighborhood of Pittsburgh, where he and his wife Kathy were longtime residents of Reamer St. in East Brookline. They were married at the Church of the Resurrection in Brookline and were active members there.
Thomas Joseph Ryan, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 26, 2021,
at St. Clair Hospital.
He is survived by Kathleen Dolan Ryan, his beloved wife of 63 years; and their four sons: Thomas, Jr. (Michelle), Michael (Kelly), Daniel (Carol), and Terence (Lisa) Ryan.
He was the proud pap of 10 grandchildren:
Christina, Stephanie, Jennifer, Matt, Alex,
Timothy, Jonathan, Katelyn, Marcus, and Rachel Ryan;
in addition to many loving nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, James Ryan (Bea);
and sisters, Dorothy Schmidt (George) and Lois Ryan.
Arrangements were by Beinhauer Funeral Home, McMurray. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Our Lady of Grace Church of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. Interment immediately followed at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
