Sylacauga - Robert "Sonny" Champion passed away Sunday morning Sept 26th. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.

Sonny was a proud Munford High Alumni. He loved to reminisce about his football days in high school as the captain and quarterback of the football team. Sonny obtained his bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a minor in Chemistry and Physics from Jacksonville State University. He later received his Building License in 1970 and was well known for his residential housing business "Champion Builders" in the Talladega, Shelby, and Calhoun County areas. In 1986, he graduated from Emory University with a degree in Ministry and later served in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church for 35 years.

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his father, Harold; mother, Frances; brothers, Jimmy "Pop", and William David as well as several friends and family members.

He leaves behind his 7 children, Phil Champion (Christi), Kevin "Duke" Champion (Chrissy), Renee Beaube (Alex), Scott Champion (Tracy), Apryl Wynn (Jamey), Will Glaze (Brandy) and Angel Butler (Kyle).
