Obituary for Mrs. Mary Herring Chapman.....
It is with great sadness to announce the death of Mary Herring Chapman. She passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the age of 97.
Born on January 30, 1924 in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late Pelzer Herring and Meddie Vickery Herring. Mrs. Chapman was an inspector for the Hartwell Garment Company. Mary was also an active member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church for 70 years and recently attended Sardis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four older sisters, one older brother; her husband, Harold Chapman, and son, Terrell Chapman.
She is survived by two daughters: Norma Roebuck of Ellijay, GA and Gail Sanders (Keith) of Pensacola, FL; and daughter-in-law: Sarah Chapman Stalvey of Hartwell. Mary is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, October 23, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
A Celebration of Mary's life will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating. Burial of her ashes will be held in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Howell St, Hartwell, GA 30643 and Sardis Baptist Church, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA 30643.
