Patricia Ann "Patsy" Setzer

Patricia Ann (nee Goddard) Setzer passed away peacefully, Tuesday September 14, 2021. Beloved wife of 71 years to Bill Setzer, Mother of Gayle Staff, Barb (Mark) Johanning, Rebecca (John) Smith, and Bobbi (the late Kevin) Gustafson, Grandmother to Nikki (Joe) Ormsby, Jenna (Richard) King, and James Gustafson and Great Grandmother to Eva and Bailee Moore, Zoey Ormsby, Ariel King, and Wyatt Ormsby. Patricia was born October 26, 1932 in Saint Louis, Missouri to John Sylvester and Fredonia Catherine (nee Schrieffer) Goddard. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Frank, Jimmy, Tom and Mike Goddard and sister Rose Brown. She is survived by her sister Cecelia Shanika and brother Jack (Anne) Goddard. Beloved aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to many.

Patricia was the oldest of 8 children. She grew up on West Lee Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri and attended St. Alphonsus Rock High School until 1947 when she went to work for Bell Telephone Company to help support her family. She always joked "she was too short for long distance". In 1950 she was a wing woman for a co-worker on a blind double date where she was paired with a guy named Bill. Little did they know that would be a match made in heaven. Bill's car was frequently seen at 10th and Pine picking her up after work for a date. Bill received her mother's seal of approval and six months later they were married. Pat was Bill's everpresent support on his many adventures – part-time painter and maintenance woman at the apartment building they co-owned and hostess at Cristo's Restaurant which they owned for more than 25 years. When she wasn't backing up Bill, she had her own adventures being a librarian, school cook, Girl Scout leader, school reading volunteer, office administrator at Castle Park Apartments, gardener and many other endeavors. Everyone who knew Pat had a friend for life. She was a feisty champion of the underdog, helping the Normandy School District tax initiative. She loved to read. She enjoyed travel adventures with Bill including memorable trips to French Lick Springs Indiana, Bermuda, Hawaii, and Boca Raton Florida. Their last big trip was an Alaskan cruise in 2018. She loved playing canasta and pinochle with Bill or any family member that would play.

She will be remembered by many as a dedicated mother to her own children and to countless others that she helped to nurture. She was known as "Mommy Mrs. Setzer" to many children she encountered in her neighborhood, extended family and through her volunteer efforts.

As she battled dementia in later years, her kind sweet personality shined through that fog. Many of the wonderful caretakers who helped her were won over by her bright smile and loving ways.

Burial services are private. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
