Marie Polzin was born on July 28, 1944 in Tulare, California and passed away on September 15, 2021 in Clovis, California, after a battle with an abdominal infection, a complication of her most recent surgery. In between those life markers this long time resident of Fresno lived a rich and rewarding life filled with joy, fun and love.

Marie loved working and being productive; and over the years worked as a casino card dealer, a pineapple factory worker, a social worker, a paralegal, a court room sketch artist, a river docent and a supporter of the arts and humanities.

She loved being out in the world and in nature, at the central coast, along the rivers, lakes and mountains of California, and especially in her home garden.

She loved people, her family, longtime companion Dave Brodie and her niece/god daughter Julie Vlasis; her longtime friends from Roosevelt High School, class of 1962; friends from her Fresno State days in the art department and her sorority; friends from the Welfare Department and from the Fresno legal community; friends from art hop, the poet and artist community, and her volunteer work. She made friends easily and often, and loved making people feel welcome to her home, her neighborhood, her world. As one of her poet friends said recently, "she was one of those rays of light that touched everybody she came into contact with." In short, she was special and adored and provided a lifetime of sweet memories to those lucky enough to share in her life.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Maybelle Polzin, her sister Jacqueline Thomson and her brother William "Bill" Polzin. She is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held for her friends and family at a to-be-determined time and place when we can hug each other without covid concerns (Marie says get vaccinated!). Remembrances may be made in Marie's name to the San Joaquin River Parkway Trust (www.riverparkway.org), the Fresno Art Museum (www.fresnoartmuseum.org) or a charity of your choice.
