George W. Coon, Sr., 79, of China, formerly of Port Arthur, died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur. Memorial services will be 6:00 pm Monday, June 4, 2005 at Broussard's Chapel in Nederland, with Rev. Eldon Reed officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Mr. Coon was a native of Orange, Texas, moved to Port Arthur in the late forties, and has lived the last five years in China, Texas. He was retired from the Gulf Oil Corp. in Port Arthur with 30 years in the tin shop as a tinsmith. He also owned and operated Georgeis Aluminum, a subsidiary of Coon Enterprises. Mr. Coon was a member and 32nd degree in the Masonic Lodge and served as a U.S. Marine during WWII. Mr. Coon was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Fannie Coon, infant daughter Candace Coon, and 2 sisters, Bessie Smith and Nellie Johnson. He is survived by his devoted soul mate, Rena Lee of China, TX; 2 daughters, Carol Rambin of Bridge City, TX and Sharon Moore of Nederland, TX; son, George W. Coon, Jr. of Port Arthur, TX; sister, Jeanette Webb and husband John of Vidor, TX; 3 brothers, Richard M. Coon, Jr. of Port Arthur, TX, Pete Coon and wife Mary of Orange, TX, and W.A. Coon and wife Luz of Port Arthur, TX; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Brugmann Aylor and husband Mark, Damon Rambin, Brandi Coon, and George W. Coon III; and 6 great grandchildren.
