Francis "Pete" Byard Edwards, 69, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on June 17, 1996, at home from a heart attack. Funeral services at Langford Funeral Home, 115 W 3rd St., Lee's Summit. Burial in Lee's Summit Cemetery.

Mrs. Edwards was born on November 7, 1926, in Naper, Nebraska, and grew up in Grinnell, Iowa. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theatre. In 1948 he moved to Kansas City.

During his career as a welder, he worked for RMF Steel, the Sibley Power Plant, and the Kansas City Maintenance Department. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, and a member of the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rose of the home; his mother, Catherine McCollum, Newton, Iowa; four children, Michael Edward, Little Rock, Arkansas, Karen Dillon, Kansas City, Missouri, Merry Ann Webb, Longmont, Colorado, and Linda Bert, Lathrop, Missouri; seven stepchildren, Brent, Ken, Charles and Darrel Wheatley, Marlene Dyck, Luanne Hanford, and Beth Martens; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Edwards and Herschel Edwards; and two sisters, Margie White and Violet Leadley.
