She had a huge heart. She never met a stranger and was always looking out for others, always reaching out a hand to help, nurture or lift someone from a bad situation.
Kathy was a consummate professional, actively leading and serving in equal measure and willing to give her all to help those around her. She studied business at LSU, and was a business manager and jack-of-all-trades at California Agricultural Research "Cal Ag" for over 25 years, before joining Research Designed for Agriculture as a technical coordinator for an additional 4 years.
Being a hands on -can do person, Kathy became deeply involved in the science side of her work, and her love of honey bees came in handy as she performed pollinator safety studies and trained others with bees. Her work ethics and loyalty earned her the respect of her colleagues around the world, and she was a frequent organizer and speaker in her professional society, the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants.
Kathy is survived by many, most importantly her husband of 43 years David Richards, their daughter Maggie, and of course the apples of her eye, her two perfect grandchildren Moira and Colin.
A celebration of life is in the works but no date has been set. If you were lucky enough to know Kathy, please celebrate her. Have a Margarita, enjoy some ice cream and most importantly save the bees.
