Born September 20, 1925, to the late Otto and Louise Haack in Michigan City, Indiana, Dolores devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Taking care of her family and being a constant prayer warrior for others were her most cherished qualities. She was a 1946 Graduate of St. Joseph Nursing College of South Bend, Indiana and a sixty-six-year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Buchanan, Michigan. Delores was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles, but mostly enjoyed spending time in her cottage in Northern Michigan.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Gerald Smith, Sr.; one daughter, Gerrie Lynn Smith; three brothers, Alvin Haack, Roger Haack and Lawrence "Larry" Haack; two sisters, Rosalie Hutson and Alverta Bremmer; and one great granddaughter, Chelsea Chappell.
Survivors include one son, Gerald (Terre) Smith, Jr.; two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" (Kerry Farrar) Sain and Margaret (Richard) Gridley; six grandchildren, Nikki Sain, Raechel (Ronald) Eller, Rebecca (Caleb) Simon, Nathaniel Smith, Rick (Jennifer) Gridley, and Chris (Shannon) Gridley; and nine great grandchildren.
No services are scheduled at this time, however the family plans to have a private interment, to be determined at a later date.
