James Franklin McCarthy Jr., 74, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Woodlawn Haven, Mt. Holly.
He was born July 11, 1947, in Gaston Co, NC, son of the late James Franklin McCarthy Sr. and Thelma Louise Bolding McCarthy.
James was a United States Marine Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from Wallace Computer Services. He loved working in his yard and listening to music. He often would hike Crowders Mountain with his granddaughters, Kayla and Cydney, and bike the Greenway. He loved his family and spending time with them. He was a Duke, Carolina Panthers, and Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Brooks.
James is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Brooks (Jerry), Krista Ward (Bill), and Melissa McCarthy; brothers, Ron McCarthy, and Rev. Jeffrey McCarthy; sisters, Susan Kiser, Kathy McRee, and Dr. Amy Sifford; grandchildren, Kayla Brice (Trey), Cydney Pitts, Matthew McCarthy, and Brittany Brooks; and great grandchildren, Khoen Brice, Kyan Brice, Gavin Hullender, and Sarah Hullender.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
