She retired from DOTD after 42 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years and also coached girls softball (TV Bugs and Baton Rouge bombers ) for over 25 years. Following retirement, she began playing the organ and joined the Baton Rouge Organ Club. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Pegues; father, Jack Clay; husband, John P Hawkins; son, Jim C Hawkins; and siblings, T J, Frank, and Francis. She is survived by her five daughters, Pam Martin, June Owen, Barbara Nagim, Ruth Hawkins and Dawn Brown; and three sons in law, G T Owen, Jeff Nagim and Mike Brown; two sisters, Carolyn Clay and Janet Mason; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
