Dorothy Jane Brave Eagle-Ross was born on April 18, 1939 in Red Water, SD to Isaac Brave Eagle, Sr. and Matilda Nora Salway. Dorothy made her journey to the Spirit World on September 23, 2021 at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran's Home in Hot Springs, SD.

Dorothy attended Kyle Day School and Oglala Community Boarding School. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Oregon State University. After that, she attended Western Colorado University where she earned a Master's Degree in Psychology.

Dorothy was an international award winning artist who specialized in quillwork and beadwork. She retired from the BIA serving as a Superintendent and Administrative Officer. She resided in Denver, CO most of her adult life. As a young girl, she enjoyed riding her favorite horse, "Dish Pan." She was a Traditional dancer and traveled the pow-wow trail. She was very active in her traditional ways and passed this down to her daughters and grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her spouse, Dr. Allen "Chuck" Ross; daughters, Dayna (Chris) Brave Eagle and Dawn (Terry) Brave Eagle; siblings, Ruby Brave Eagle, Imogene Roy, and Franklin Forward; grandchildren, Krystal (Wallace) Brave Eagle, Kelsey (Louis) Brave Eagle, and Kaitlyn Brave Eagle; great-grandchildren, Takojapi, Kaleb Brave Eagle, Hendrix Brave Eagle, Nirvana Brave Eagle, Kiedis Brave Eagle, and Lennon Brave Eagle; Hunka brother, Ben Sherman; Hunka sister, Bea Armendariz; and Hunka children, Kathryn & Natasha Pengily, Delight Halfred, Kristi Blue Bird, Elgin Head, John Beheeler, Florentine Blue Thunder, Joe Moreno, Kirby Kills Straight, Oriann Baker, and Sandra Claymore.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Brave Eagle and Matilda Nora Salway; paternal grandparents, Oscar Brave Eagle and Emma White Face; maternal grandparents, Charles Salway and Jesse LaDeau, brothers, Eldred "Sonny" Brave Eagle, Douglas Forward, and Isaac Brave Eagle, Jr.; sisters, Spina Jesse Brave Eagle, Elaine Brave Eagle, and Eldean Brave Eagle; and great-grandchild, Kingston Dayne Brave Eagle.

Pallbearers will be Kaleb Brave Eagle, Hendrix Brave Eagle, Kiedis Brave Eagle, Terry Bull Bear, Louis Vocu, John Beheeler, Milton Around Him, and Wallace White Dress, Jr.
