Patricia Bowdler Hoffman Sullivan
AMHERST – A resident of the town of Amherst since March 2000, Patricia Hoffman Sullivan, 84, died Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Commonwealth Assisted Living. She was born in Durham, NC, November 30, 1936, to Philip Charles Hoffman, Jr. and Jacquelyn Fleming Hoffman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sister Kathryn Evans Nunberg, of Reston, VA, and her brother Philip Charles Hoffman, III, of Chesapeake, VA.

She is survived by her children, a son, John Fielding Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Stephanie Christus Sullivan, of Atlanta, GA; and two daughters, Erin Elizabeth Sullivan Byers and her husband James Arthur Byers, of Stuarts Draft, VA; and Heather Marie Sullivan Taylor and her husband Michael Parr Taylor, Sr of Paeonian Springs, Va. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Tess Sullivan Botelho, Bronwyn Tharpe, Katelynn Byers, Tricia Martin, Lewis Byers, Michael Taylor, Jr., and Zachary Taylor; and great grandchildren, Willow Botelho, Gwen Botelho, Eris Botelho, Megan Tharpe, Tristen Martin, and Ava Ireland.

When she was seven years old her family moved to Alexandria, VA. She attended Mt. Vernon Elementary School, George Washington High School, and George Mason University. She was married in St. Rita's Catholic Church, Alexandria, VA to John Fielding Sullivan. They lived in Franconia, VA where their three children were born. The family also lived in Richmond, VA and Loudoun County (Sterling), VA. She moved to Reston, VA in 1996.

She worked at the Pentagon for the Air Force until her first child was born. She was active in her community and church. She was active in her children's scouting, sports, and school activities. She attended NOVA and NIRE attaining her real estate license in 1975. In 1979, she began a career with the Central Intelligence Agency where she had many interesting and exciting experiences, including domestic and overseas travel. She retired from the CIA December 31, 1998.

Upon moving to The Meadows in Amherst, she joined Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Winton Country Club, the Amherst Women's Club, three bridge clubs, was a Friend of the Amherst County Museum, and became Vice President/Secretary of The Meadows Homeowners Assoc, Inc.
