She grew up in Kirtland, New Mexico, then on the ranch at Farmington, New Mexico. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1951 and from Brigham Young University in 1955.
She met Warren Curg Johnson in San Francisco, California. and they were married in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 11, 1958.
They are the parents of seven children and have seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Among their children, Marc Warren Johnson died as an infant and is buried in Colma, California.
