Vernon Spradley, 90, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. A resident of Manningtown for his entire life, Vernon was born on September 13, 1931. He was a longtime member of Manningtown Presbyterian Church and worked for L.R. Manning Pulp Wood Company in Brunswick and Pulp Land Company and Waynline. In his free time, Vernon was always hunting, fishing and farming. His smiling face never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Because of his love and dedication to his community, Stetson Bennett, Jr. coined Vernon with "Mayor of Manningtown" and Vernon coined Stetson as "Chief". However, his family was first and foremost in his life and he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vernon will be forever remembered mostly for "living life to the fullest". His departing words were always, "I love you in the Lord". His wife of 50 plus years, Virginia Manning Spradley preceded him in death along with his parents, Hurbert and Anniebelle Spradley; his sisters, Lucille Manning, Fannie Clark and Edis Romero; his sons, Wyman Spradley and Joseph "Bo" Spradley; a daughter, Barbara and husband, Ted Teringer.
